Biography
After careers in Speech Pathology and Healthcare Administration, Judy Walter began studying art in the late ‘90s. Using a variety of mediums, she especially enjoys expressionistic, bold design, and color palettes for her landscapes, figures and portraits. To expand her art Walter uses en plein air painting, figurative painting with models, and three-dimensional studies in clay and metal.

Regionally, Walter has received awards in numerous art shows and juried competitions. Recently she won the Gold Award in the Midsouthern Watercolorists 2016 Juried Show. Walter has regularly participated in community events, such as Women for Texas A&M – Texarkana art auctions and TRAHC events. She was selected as Women for the Arts Party with Picassos 2014 Signature Artist.

Walter’s work was selected for a three-person exhibit in the Arkansas Historic Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has been featured in a solo exhibit at the Silvermoon on Broad Gallery in Texarkana, Texas as well as the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council in Hope, Arkansas. Walter’s art is in private and public collections, such as the University of Arkansas Community College – Texarkana campus and the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Examples of her metal sculptures can be found at Hempstead Hall, Hope, Arkansas and University of Arkansas Community College – Hope.

A Hope, Arkansas native, Walter attended Texas Christian University and received degrees from University of Missouri – Kansas City, University of Kansas, and University of Arkansas - Little Rock. After working in various parts of the country, Walter has lived in Texarkana, Arkansas for the past 20 years.

Artist Statement
“From my earliest paintings in oil and watercolor representational art, I have been an explorer, trying different techniques and styles and thoroughly enjoy the adventure. Just as I am inspired by all forms of art: music, dance, literature, sculpture, theatre – each of us is enriched by the art around us. My personal definition of art continues to expand.

In this exhibit I would like to take the viewer on an adventure, an exploration of different forms of visual art – different mediums and styles – from realism to expressionism to abstract. I hope you begin the exhibit with an open mind. Questions like “What is Abstract art any way? I understand realism, but I don’t get Abstract!” and “Isn’t visual art just line and form, light and dark, color and shape?” are pertinent at any given time.

I wanted to share my own creative adventure as one artist’s way of “seeing.” With various distortions, enhancements, and use of color, you may even laugh between “What WAS she thinking?” to “Oh, that makes sense.”

I hope the “adventure” enriches your day!”

This Exhibit is made possible by contributions from TRAHC Members.
